About
The Adelaide Potters’ Club Inc. sells and exhibits a variety of functional and sculptural ceramic wares, all unique and hand-made by our local artist members.
The club holds exhibitions throughout the year to showcase the best of members’ work, and regularly invites members to submit work for general sale in our retail space.
Since inception the club has run entirely by volunteer membership.
The club aims to facilitate the study and practice of ceramic arts. The cottage and courtyard garden provide an ideal meeting place, workshop, and gallery space for the members to use for the creation, promotion and sale of pottery.

History
The club was founded in Adelaide on 13 August 1949 – the name ‘Adelaide’ was chosen as it was the anniversary of Queen Adelaide’s birthday (b. 13 August 1792). The Adelaide Potters’ Club Inc. was incorporated in 1954 and is one of (if not) the oldest pottery clubs in Australia.
The founding members were an extraordinary group of women who volunteered for the Red Cross - First President, Mrs P.E.Stowe MBE, and Mrs Rene Calder played a significant role in establishing the club. The club began in rented rooms in North Terrace, and soon moved to a tiny two-story cottage in Grenfell Street. The club continued to grow and in September 1956 established a studio and gallery in Liston Street, Parkside. The club relocated to the historic
1897/98 City of Unley cottage, at 84 Edmund Avenue, Unley in 2002.
While we currently find ourselves without a physical club or gallery, the Adelaide Potters Club continues to thrive in new ways. Until we secure a new space, we’ll operate as a virtual hub—still offering exhibitions, workshops, and creative opportunities. We remain dedicated to nurturing ceramic artists and keeping our community connected.
